Get Connected

Community is a theme that runs throughout Scripture. The Jews, even when dispersed due to being conquered by their enemies, organized into groups and formed communities for worship and teaching so they remained connected with each other, their culture and God. With this heritage it was natural for Jesus to develop a community of followers (12 disciples). Small groups also comprised an integral part of the early church structure as described in Acts 2. They were small enough to allow individual members to minister to one another and their community through the use of their spiritual gifts, and be taught the teachings of Christ while being part of a larger body of Christians. They were the first living examples of biblical community.

"But I am in community," you might say - (i.e. sports clubs, Parent Teacher Associations, country clubs, various community organizations, etc.). But are you in a biblical community? What is a biblical community? It is a community of Christians, or those interested in learning what being a Christian is about, who help each other learn and apply the message of Christ. People in Small Groups care for and encourage one another to grow in their faith, hold one another accountable, are authentic, honor confidentiality of group members and celebrate and grieve with each other. They willingly take the message of Jesus to the world through the witness of their thoughts, words and deeds, and use their God given gifts to care and serve others in their group, community, church and the world. Are you in a community like that? Would you like to be a part of a community like that--one where no one stands alone against the world?

We want to challenge each person who calls New Cov their church home to get connected in a biblical community within New Covenant. There are two ways to do that. The preferred method is become a participant in a New Cov Small Group. If you are not quite ready for that, there are a number of ministries focused on serving the church body and/or the community outside our walls. Becoming a laborer in one of these ministries will provide you an opportunity to get to know others, find great rewards in serving and draw closer to God in doing so. Interested? Good! Let's get connected!
